Why Group Coaching Helps You Live On Purpose in 2017
A new year is just around the corner, are you ready? Do you have your word or resolution ready? Are you prepared to enter a whole new year on your checks?
Yeah. Me neither. In fact, didn't we just enter 2016? At least, that's how it feels to me.
In the two plus years since I've opened the doors to life coaching, I've seen a couple of new years come and go. On the other hand, I've seen lots of new youing from my friends and clients.
If I'm perfectly honest with you, I got into coaching because it seemed like the right fit and I felt that God was somewhat dragging me to my next assignment. I had heard about coaching through a speaker's conference and I was a coaching leader. You put two and two together, you see.
As I opened my doors for my first group coaching session, my thoughts were, "this is no big deal". Women I had known for years showed up at my house, ate refreshments, and discussed ways to live out their faith. Same thing I had been doing at my last job.
And yet, as I stuck with it, something became different. I became different.
Month after month, women would show up (much to my surprise). Some women came because they had an interest in the topic. Some came because coaching was helping them live a life of purpose and faith one step at a time.
Since that day, more and more women have joined our little community. Women from all walks of life. Women from all ages. And as one client told me....
If you know me at all, umm, who doesn't love a birthday party every month? Sign me up!
In the process of inspiring women to change their lives one step at a time, I've changed my life. I'm inspired by the changes they are making. But I've also deepened my passion to help women live their lives with intention and purpose in their everyday moments.
And whether you are already a raving fan of my Dip Your Toe In Saturdays or are wondering if it's the right fit for you, I believe that our group coaching sessions is the key ingredient to help you live the life you want to live and the life God wants you to live in 2017. And here's why...
Group Coaching is an assessment tool
One of the great things about coaching is that it helps each of us assess where we are. A common coaching model is focused on where you are today, where you would like to be, and what steps are in between to get you there.
At each of my group coaching sessions, we look at where you are on a particular topic. Where would say you are at when it comes to gratitude? Bible reading? Serving others? We have tools for that. Tools that help you identify in creative ways where you are in that moment.
I don't know about you, but I sometimes need a little something to get me to press pause and see where I am. In grace. In love. Not as judgment, but as I love this but I want more of it kind of way.
Group Coaching will help you identify next steps
One of our greatest challenges when it comes to changing our lives is the idea of being overwhelmed. When we think of all the steps it might take to change our career after 10 or 20 years, we get overwhelmed. When we think about what it's going to take to lose 30 pounds, we get overwhelmed (mostly from all the workout pain and food torture - but that's another blog post in the making).
And yet, what we really need is to identify one step. Not the next 10 steps. But just one step that will get us moving toward change. Your step may be small like researching what your next step could be or it may be changing a habit or committing the issue to prayer.
The great thing about all this? You get to decide. Coaching is not about someone telling you what to do. Life coaching is about you sourcing your own answers. Between you and God, what is your next step to live a life with purpose and meaning while you honor God? You get to intentionally choose your next steps. And all those small intentional steps add up to a changed life for the coming year.
Group Coaching connects you
One of the surprising things on my two year journey has been the One Foot community. When I opened shop, I thought I'd be focusing on individual coaching. Helping women find their God-given purpose and passion while I help them change their lives.
And while I still love meeting with women individually and help them find their God-given purpose and process life transition, my main focus has become the group setting and my greatest desire is to keep building a community of women who are committed to changing their life one step at a time together. A community of women who want to live with intention and purpose in the middle of the everyday moments of work and raising a family, and going to church. A community of women who support each other in the changes each is purposing in their own lives.
God has been faithful. You see, one thing has remained the same about One Foot. I am still a little lost. From day one, I stepped out and I could have never imagined or planned my way to this spot. And yet, this is exactly where I am supposed to be.
One Foot faith is actually a faith that trusts God more than it trusts its own instincts. One foot faith enjoys the ride. One foot faith embraces the work God is doing and steps in to journeying with purpose with like-minded women.
