3 Essentials for Aligning Your Life & Faith

What does it mean to align your life and faith?  I tell women all the time that this is what I do. I help women look at the Bible and their faith and say, "This is how i will live this out today." From living on mission with the Gospel to choosing our priorities, aligning our lives and faith helps us stay grounded and centered.

So what's the problem? I don't know about you, but life is busy. I wake up running. From taking care of the doggie to getting breakfast in (the most important meal of the day - at least that's what they tell me) to getting things done, we can sometimes lose sight of what we value.

How does that look? For me, I can get through my entire day and find that I've forgotten to check in with God - even while running a business about faith and life. I can snap at someone I've been working with. Or make less than great choices when it comes to relating to those important to me like spouses, kids, and friends.

So, what does that look for you? In what ways does your life align with your faith? And in what ways do you want to align you faith and life a little more?  Where in your life do you live without thinking about what you believe?

To be honest, I have many areas I do this in. I try to fix it myself. I worry and fret over things I can't control. I feel insecure when I know God defines me.

So, how do you and I go about aligning our life and faith? I have 3 simple steps for aligning your faith & life.  Are you ready?

1. Do a real-life assessment

I know what you're thinking. Assessments are never fun.  And you would be right. But if we never assess, we never think about where we are at and where we need to go.  The basics of coaching, you see.  We need to bravely look in the mirror and identify what's happening in real time. Are we living our faith? In what areas of our lives do we want to align a little more closely? What areas are we running solo instead of with God?  Identify those areas that could use a little aligning with your faith.

2. Picture it

You don't have to draw an actual picture. But you do need to identify what your life would look like when you align your faith and life (especially in those areas you identified in #1). Make a list of how your life would be different. If you like to draw, draw a picture. Make a collage or vision board of what this would look like. Whatever it is that will help you - do it. But you can't get to where you want to go, without having a picture of what you are trying to attain.

3. Fill In the Gaps

Any good life coach will tell you the secret sauce is realizing what is in the space between where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow. So, think about the areas you want to align. What will get you there? Will it be printing out a Bible verse in the area of your alignment and carrying it with you? Will it be turning off the radio on your way to work/school/grocery store and spending time in prayer? Will it be finding an accountability partner to help?

Here's what I tell my clients. Well technically, I've never said this. But, "Rome wasn't built in a day." What I do say is to find one baby step you can take to start moving in the right direction. Your baby step may not get you all the way toward total alignment - but it may help you to start moving in the direction of aligning one area of your life.

Bonus Tip: Enjoy the Journey

Here's what I'm not saying. You and I - we don't have to be perfect. It's okay to not have it all figured out. God loves you just where you are. On the other hand, I believe He wants us to keep growing - to keep living out what we believe about Him and HIs promises. Give yourself permission to be present and not perfect. Be brave enough to admit where you are today and at the same time, the areas of your life you'd like to change. And then develop a plan. One baby step after another to start living what you believe.
